GISELA is putting in place an Equal Opportunities Policy for the lifetime of the Project, in close collaboration with the Partner Institutions. The fact that GISELA is not an Institution but a Consortium of Partners of a 2-year lifetime delimitates the reach of the Gender policy to:

  • Promoting and supporting equal opportunities in all Partner Institutions in their GISELA activities, on the basis of a Gender Equality Action Plan (GEAP);
  • Ensuring a fair treatment of minorities in staff recruitment.

Gender distribution

In the EELA-2 project,  the gender distribution was the following:

# Females

Total

% Females

European Partners

10

44

23

Latin America Partners

40

133

30

Total

50

177

28

Using information from the GISELA Timesheet tool, one obtains the current overall figures: 122 registered persons, of which 33 females (27%). It appears that the GISELA gender distribution is quite the same as it was in EELA-2.

    # Females

Gender agreement

The Gender Equality Action Plan (GEAP), coordinated by the Project Management, includes three lines of actions:

  • Get a Statement of Intent (SoI) of all Partners not already submitted to a local Equal Opportunity Programme (EOP), on an GISELA Gender Agreement (GENDAG) ensuring equality of treatment of persons regardless, inter alia, of sex, ethnic origin, physical handicap, sexual orientation or religion in all aspects of their professional environment;
  • Create a Web site page promoting both the GEAP and GENDAG, and highlighting efforts to improve the gender balance;
  • Guaranty equal opportunity in recruitments by inserting both on the Web site recruitment page and each vacancy notice the statement: “In line with our policy of Equal Opportunities, we encourage both men and women with relevant qualifications to apply”.

The Project Management is following the monitoring of the Equal Opportunity evolution. In case of clearly established unfair treatment of minorities, direct interaction will occur with the corresponding Partner.
